The first advice I got when I mentioned I was borderline (it wasn’t DBT per se but my therapist was working off what’s her names work) was basically “be a singlet” and LOL HAHAHAHA what no.
0_o what
We’re being told to identify our emotions, the causes of them and the cycle we can get into where we feel bad about feeling bad so feel bad etc etc, with a view to learning how to break that cycle and better modulate our emotions.
Also to accept them and just experience them without getting swept up in them and going and doing something dangerous/impulsive/borderline.
That sounds all well and good but then they start talking about “wise mind” and “quiet places” and I’m just like arugh why is it all so twee whyyy
It doesn’t help that our course materials are all American and thus written with IMPORTANT THINGS IN CAPITAL LETTERS, often QUITE RANDOMLY and that Americanised stuff tends to the shmultzy anyway.
(Also puns. Puns everywhere.)
